TUR is built on Umbraco Cloud, which is designed to simplify both maintenance and development of complex websites without compromising performance or scalability. By utilizing cloud technology, tasks such as security updates and backups are automated, freeing up resources for developing new content and functionality.

Umbraco Cloud also offers a cost-effective solution, as businesses benefit from hosting without large bills. This means that budgets can be allocated specifically for hosting rather than consultancy hours for managing operations.

At the same time, the headless architecture in Umbraco Cloud ensures that Umbraco can easily integrate with other systems and distribute data across different platforms.

Custom Solutions: Educational Programs and Integration with NemTilmeld

To meet TUR’s unique needs, Umbraco has delivered a custom solution that combines user-friendliness with technical flexibility. The solution allows schools to manage complex educational programs while offering a seamless registration process through integration with NemTilmeld.

Educational programs

Educational programs, which were previously difficult to visualize through extensive PDFs, are now easy to create, maintain, and get an overview of. This eliminates the need for overwhelming documents and unnecessary clicks, creating a far more intuitive user experience.

Students can now view the various stages of their education, such as Foundation Course, Apprenticeship, School, Electives, and Final Exam, in a linear format with colored sections. They can also see the total time required to complete the education. If the program is available for both EUD and EUV, students can choose which pathway to display.

In addition to the clear display with colored boxes, explanations, and optional additional notes, students can compare one school program with another. This helps them make informed decisions and feel confident about education requirements—especially when choosing between multiple programs.

Managing each school program is fortunately intuitive for editors in Umbraco’s backend. Without technical expertise, editors can create educational programs by entering the course stages, time intervals, notes, and optional periods. Everything is then automatically presented dynamically to the students.

The flexible structure allows schools to continuously update their offerings while ensuring that all content is displayed correctly and professionally.

Integration with NemTilmeld

Another key aspect of the solution is the integration with NemTilmeld, which makes searching for information and registering for courses both simple and efficient.

Previously, users were redirected away from TUR’s website to an external platform to get more information about a course. This often involved many clicks and could result in users quickly leaving TUR's site. Now, users can remain on TUR’s site until the final registration step (which still takes place on an external site).

This is made possible by the NemTilmeld integration, which pulls data directly into TUR’s site, providing a link to the correct registration page. Data from NemTilmeld is automatically synced, reducing manual workload and eliminating errors in the information provided. The data imported includes course descriptions, start dates, registration deadlines, locations, and the number of available seats.

All courses are listed on TUR’s site when created by course providers, and if a course is fully booked or expired, it is automatically removed from the site. This keeps the content up to date and relevant for users.

The integration ensures a more seamless and professional user experience, providing users with clarity and confidence. TUR retains its identity for as long as possible during the process. Internally, this also means less time spent on maintenance for TUR.

MCB’s Umbraco developers played a crucial role in transforming TUR’s platform.

The development began with a new design, focusing on a different color palette, intuitive navigation that ensures fewer clicks, and the use of images to create a visually appealing and modern site. After the design was approved, MCB’s technical Umbraco team started migrating from an older Umbraco version and implemented new modules and integrations, such as NemTilmeld. They transformed a complex setup into a smooth and user-friendly platform that now makes it easy for editors to manage educational programs and distribute important information within the transport industry.

By combining technical expertise and close collaboration with TUR, a solution has been created that not only meets the needs of TUR and the educational institutions but is also future-proof and easy to expand with new features.
